Daniel Gomme

Daniel Gomme is a researcher investigating how to improve strategy game opposition by exploring the idea of tensions between players, with a particular focus on what those players perceive. He aims to define the components of tension in games, and experiment with how to manipulate tension through those components.

With a combination of user experience knowledge, as well as skills in programming, game design and AI, he has a unique perspective on how players and AI interact; with this, he aims to find new ways of improving AI that extend existing concepts such as challenge and flow. By centering his theories around what players perceive instead of the opponents themselves, he hopes his theories will transition to even environments with no AI at all, such as the design of tabletop games.
